New 'At Home' Courses
Inspirational Homes is delighted to announce a second series of courses for 2012.
Inspired by the huge success of Green-Door Leitrim 2011 we thought it would be good to give people the chance to avail of, in greater depth and detail, some of the skills and expertise seen over the weekend.
We will be running our second series of courses in the lead up to the Green-Door Leitrim Weekend (14th-16th September). Running from August 18th there will be a number of day-long courses.
Where possible the day-long 'At Home' courses will be held in one of the homes listed on the Inspirational Homes website, helping to convey the theme of what is being taught.
All courses will be funded by Leitrim Development Company and only a minimal charge will be made €15 which will include fresh home-made lunch, tea and coffee.

Eco-renovations and extensions with Mike Harris and Colin Bell
Self-builder Mike Harris and architect Colin Bell will guide you through the process of renovating and extending an existing building using low-impact materials. Run at Mike's home where Colin Bell was the architect, this is an 'At Home' course where you will get a good feel for the processes and results from both the self-builder and architect's perspective.Mike and Colin will cover the benefits and pitfalls of non-standard materials and processes and go through the various stages from inspiration to perspiration that you will encounter in a self-build project. Expect loads of practical advice and insight on building and on how a good working relationship between client and architect can be beneficial to both parties.

Establishing a brief with Colin Bell (MRIA)
Where do you start when you want to design a new home or extension? How do you decide on the shape, size and scale of your project? The decisions are endless and yet it is so important to get the basics right at the start. Architect and self-builder Colin Bell will take you through the questions you need to be asking at the very early stages of your ideas and help you to understand how to begin to formulate your home/extension/ renovation brief. Topics he will cover go from the creative elements such as how your home will sit in/relate to the landscape right through to the practical decisions of heating and insulating choices. Expect a full day!
